Sr Anne Cassidy, a Diocesan Director of Youth Ministry and CYO  spoke. She is a Salesian Sister, who recently was with Bishop Flanagan at a gathering of 23,000 young people in Houston.  CEO's and sports figures are big deals today, but our youth are suffering from the cutbacks of our times. The young people are not just the church of "tomorrow," they are the church of today. Please encourage young people, recognize them when you come into contact with them.  These people need to be invited into our activities. I applaud you for working with the youth in your Squires programs.

Chaplain’s Report.  Chapter Chaplain  Bishop Thomas Flanagan reported how happy he was to welcome all to St Brigid's, his home Council. "At the National Youth Gathering in Houston, my third, I had the extraordinary privilege of visiting with these youth. They have studied the church, talked to people in their churches and communities, and their hearts are heavy with the problems of today.  I spent about 7 hours with them, and it was a gift and a blessing and a great joy. We the Knights of Columbus, if we are going to survive, and to grow, we must involve the young people.  We have to be big enough, and open enough, to open our hearts to them. We have to change, and adjust to the needs of the times, which are far different today than when I joined. On the subject of our Council meetings, make sure people, especially newcomers, are welcomed, that no one sits alone. I have a chalice that belonged to Lezandro Ganz. He was a quiet man, who never spoke up in a meeting, but on the way home, he would talk about it. He was a member because he enjoyed the fraternity. I believe that that the Habitat for Humanity program is a great way that we can represent our faith in the community."

Chapter President. The Pilgrim Center of  Hope is a Catholic Evangelization Ministry. One of the outreaches they support is a booth at the Airport for the dissemination of  information about the Catholic Church. They are looking for help at volunteering during the daytime in 2-hour shifts. Their website is http://pilgrimcenter.com. Deacon Tom and Mary Jane Fox can be reached by telephone at 521-3377.
